Alexandr Grigorev is a queer Indigenous researcher from the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) in the Russian Arctic.
A doctoral student at MIARC/UVSQ/Paris Saclay, Alexandr is currently working on his PhD dissertation, under Professor Borm’s and Alexandra Lavrillier’s supervision. His PhD “Queer Indigenous Identities in the Arctic” explores gender and sexuality among Indigenous and LGBTQ+ communities across the circumpolar Arctic, focusing on how local spiritual beliefs and the demands of survival shape gender roles and identities.
He studied Chinese Language and Literature at North-Eastern Federal University (NEFU) in Russia from 2006 to 2011. His Bachelor’s thesis was about The Concept of the Hero in Post-1980s Chinese Literature. From 2021 to August 2023, he completed a Master’s 2 in Environmental Law, Quality and Security in Enterprises at Université Paris-Saclay, France. From 2023 to 2024, he pursued a second Master’s 2 in Arctic Studies, with a thesis entitled Evolving Landscapes: LGBTQ+ Lives in the Context of Cultural and Legal Changes in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).
