UARCTIC REGIONAL CENTRE CONTINENTAL EUROPE at UVSQ, OPERATED BY MIARC
The University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (UVSQ) is hosting the newly created UArctic Regional Centre for Continental Europe.
The UArctic Regional Centres were created to foster dialogue and engagement at the regional level. Liaison, networking and outreach activities are encouraged with local, national and international stakeholders.
These regional centres support UArctic, share information, facilitate members' involvement in the country or region, and may also perform specific administrative functions.
The University of Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines hosts the UArctic Regional Centre for Continental Europe at its environment science and sustainability studies faculty OVSQ. It is operated by the Malaurie Institute of Arctic Research Jean Malaurie Monaco-UVSQ (MIARC). The centre fosters and promotes unique and relevant educational opportunities for northerners and continental Europeans through academic collaboration and exchange, while raising the profile of Arctic studies and research at a European level. The Regional Centre was established on 17 October 2024 in Reykjavík, Iceland, at the Arctic Circle Assembly 2024.
As stated in the Centre's memorandum of understanding, it has six main objectives:
1. To participate in and enhance the objectives of UArctic.
This encompasses the following areas:
- Education: to foster and promote unique and relevant educational opportunities for Northerners and continental Europeans through academic collaboration and exchange.
- Knowledge: to build, share and apply knowledge through members' contributions and collaborations in research and science, including indigenous and traditional knowledge.
- Membership: To participate in UArctic's goal of dynamic growth and membership of higher education institutions and other relevant organisations.
- Resources: Help leverage funding and other resources to boost productivity and capacity in the Arctic.
2. Increase the visibility of Arctic studies and research at the European level.
3. Establish links with and between Arctic research institutes and consortia in continental Europe and the Arctic.
4. Participate and coordinate, where appropriate, efforts to submit proposals for funding under ERASMUS+ and the Horizon programme.
5. Participate in fundraising campaigns.
6. Provide a forum for debate on the Arctic in continental Europe.
